Init 0 machine.
boot cdrom.

Installation starts but asks me for host name etc and doesnt give me
upgrade option?

Any ideas?

If you have a good backup, go ahead and enter the host name, etc.

I believe that the biggest difference between an install and an upgrade
is that the upgrade will not init the disk. It will overwrite the
existing O/S and ask you to confirm your IP address, system name, date,
time. . . .

In the past, Sun made machine readable documentation available. It has
been a few years since I last I downloaded it. I spent some money on
getting hard copies; machine readable docs require a working a system to
read them. Nice IF your system is working.
